The big chunky blankets are so popular right now, but come with a huge price tag. I know you’ve seen them in stores and online… and can easily cost upward of $150! That is just not in this mommas budget.
Today I’m going to show you how you can make one of your own… and all for just $30 in yarn. (Be sure to get it on sale or use your coupons).
All you need is yarn, scissors and your hands. Easy peasy so far, right?
I purchase my yarn at Hobby Lobby when it’s on sale 30% off, but you could also just go six days in a row and buy one skein of yarn each day using the 40% off coupon on the app. 😉
I used 6 skeins total to make my blanket. This is the exact yarn I used. It comes in 13 different color options.
You can get creative and make this blanket one color, two or as many as you’d like. At the end of a row, simply tie the previous color into the new color and continue looping. (Follow the instructions as shown in the video for “how to add a new skein” when you reach the end of the current one.)
You adjust the size of this blanket also. You can make it wider by adding more loops to each row. The average size blanket is made with 15-25 loops, I made mine using 20 total. More loops will yield a wider blanket. You can also make it longer by adding MORE skeins of yarn.
Mine took me about 1.5-2 hours total to make from start to finish (with no breaks). Now is a great time to catch up on some TV shows you’ve recorded or a favorite movie.
Ready? Set…. alright! Let’s get started….
***Side Note: Just in case there is any confusion when I mention the “double loop” in the video: if you are making a blanket with twenty loops… the last loop (#20) is where you will start the first loop of the next row. So you will finish the last loop and then immediately loop through that one (the double loop) to create the first loop of the next row.
