This is one of my families favorite sweet treats! We have been making it for years! It combines a little crunch, a little salty and sweet! Makes for a yummy combo! You can change it up and add different toppings !
Ingredients:
- Saltine crackers, 1 sleeve, you may need a few more or less depending on your pan size
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups milk chocolate chips
- toppings: sprinkles, M&M’s, chopped nuts, erweaetc
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Line a 10×15” baking sheet with nonstick foil or a silicone baking mat.
- Place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the lined baking sheet.
- In a saucepan, add brown sugar and butter until melted and well combined. Bring to a boil for 2-3 minutes – Be sure to stir continuously.
- Remove the brown sugar mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. This will create a caramel type mixture.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly over the crackers.
- Place the caramel covered crackers in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and immediately
sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the cracker mixture. - Cover the pan with foil and let sit for 5 minutes.
- After five minutes, remove the foil and use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate chips evenly.
- Add any toppings you may like: sprinkles, M&M’s, nuts, etc.
- Let cool completely. (You can cook at room temp or place in the fridge for about 2-3 hours.
- Once completely cooled, peel away the foil and break the “crack” into chunks.
- Enjoy!
