This is an easy summer dessert recipe. Perfect for your summer BBQ’s and get togethers.
You will need:
- one angel food cake (you could also use pound cake)
- one pint strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
- one container blueberries, washed
- one container cool whip or homemade whipped topping ( see ingredients below)
For homemade whipped topping (if using homemade and not cool whip):
- one pint heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
- dash salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- Cut angel food cake (or pound cake) into bite sized pieces.
- Wash, hull and slice strawberries.
- Wash blueberries.
- If using homemade whipped topping, add whipped topping ingredients to a bowl and mix with a hand or stand mixer on high until still peaks form.
- In a trifle bowl layer: cake, whipped topping, and berries, repeating 2-3 layers ending with whipped topping.
- I made an American flag pattern on the top with some extra blueberries and strawberries for a festive touch.
- Serve and enjoy. (Be sure to cover and keep refrigerated.)
