This is an easy summer dessert recipe. Perfect for your summer BBQ’s and get togethers.

You will need:

• one angel food cake (you could also use pound cake)
• one pint strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
• one container blueberries, washed
• one container cool whip or homemade whipped topping ( see ingredients below)

For homemade whipped topping (if using homemade and not cool whip):

• one pint heavy whipping cream
• 1/4 cup sugar
• dash salt
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Cut angel food cake (or pound cake) into bite sized pieces.
2. Wash, hull and slice strawberries.
3. Wash blueberries.
4. If using homemade whipped topping, add whipped topping ingredients to a bowl and mix with a hand or stand mixer on high until still peaks form.
5. In a trifle bowl layer: cake, whipped topping, and berries, repeating 2-3 layers ending with whipped topping.
6. I made an American flag pattern on the top with some extra blueberries and strawberries for a festive touch.
7. Serve and enjoy. (Be sure to cover and keep refrigerated.)
