Do you have a space in your home that you would love to add lighting… but you don’t have an outlet or hardwiring in that area?
I have good news- you CAN add that light anyway!!! Today, I am going to show you how I easily added three sconces to my kitchen soffit area. The area doesn’t have any wiring or plug ins.
Let’s get started!
First, decide where you want to place the light. For my space, I am adding the light over my sink area on the soffit space. My kitchen doesn’t have very much light… two pendants over the island and one light over the sink. I personally do not like the soffit and wanted a way to add interest to the space and some extra light too! I wanted to balance the space out.. so I decided three sconces would be perfect for my space.
THESE are the sconces I chose. I made sure to pick sconces that we’re adjustable and that wouldn’t be too large for my space as I only have 8 ft ceilings. These sconces adjusts in several different directions and have a great clean lined shape- perfect for the look in my kitchen.
I first decided exactly where I wanted the lights. I centered one over my sink, and one over each of the cabinets to either side of the sink area. I opened up the lights and took the mounting plate off the back. I installed the three mounting plates with the provided screws, pre-drilling my holes first. I used my favorite laser level/stud finder to make sure they were all even with each other.
Then I took the wiring off the light fixture. Each one maybe slightly different. I made sure to carefully take the wiring off the fixture so that I can use it later if I wanted to.
I then installed the fixtures on the mounting brackets and secured them with the included ball screw ends.
Next up is the lighting. I am using these puck lights. They have amazing reviews. They come with a remote to turn them off and on. They also have a timer function and you can increase or decrease the light intensity.
To attach the puck lights to the fixture, I used these PVC hose fitting pieces. They have a threaded end that screws into the light socket end and fits perfect. I attached the “slip” (non threaded end) to the back of each puck light using my favorite super glue!
Once the glue was dry, I added batteries to each light. Put the back on, and screwed each one into the fixtures.
That’s it! You now have light without having to have a plug in or hardwired junction box!
