Anytime I update or refresh a space, I always do two things. First, I consider the rooms main function and the needs of the space. The second thing I always do is to find an item that I will use as the inspiration for the space. This will help set the tone for the room and give a focused direction so it all flows together and look cohesive when the space is complete.
The inspiration piece can be any item at all. In a bathroom, it could be a shower curtain, a rug, or even towels. In my case, it was a light fixture. I’ll tell you all about it in just a moment.
Did you know that you can give your bathroom a totally new look and feel and do it on a budget? One of the ways I update a space for very little money is with paint. The power of paint is amazing! It can totally lighten, brighten, freshen up a space and give it a whole new feel. Another way is by updating the hardware and fixtures in the bathroom. These simple updates can completely update an otherwise outdated space.
Today, I will be sharing my master bathroom refresh with you, being sure to let you in on my budget friendly tips along the way. I was able to update my master bathroom on a budget and still give it an entirely new look.
First, lets take a quick look at the before. Now don’t get me wrong. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the design. However, the room only has two tiny windows… one in the main vanity area and the other in the shower/tub area. I wanted to freshen the space up, give it a light and bright feel, and make it feel cohesive with the rest of my home.

I started my hunt at one of my favorite places to shop for budget friendly home decor, Walmart. Did you know that there is an entire line of home decor from Better Homes & Gardens At Walmart ? They have so many on trend home decor items for both the inside and outside of your home, from the patio and backyard area to the kitchen, bedroom to the bathroom.
During my search, I came across some brand new lines of bathroom products from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart. Each line, has a collection of products that includes everything you need to give your bathroom a fresh, updated new look.
Let’s take a look at the three new lines first, then I’ll share which one I chose.
This is the Holbrook line.
This is the Chandler line.
This is the Safford line.
So lets start with the item I used as my inspiration for my bathroom refresh. I knew I definitely wanted to update the lighting in my bathroom. I was looking for something with glass globes to allow for the optimal amount of lighting to be projected into the space. I also needed the fixtures to be great quality and affordable. When I came across this vanity light, I knew it would be perfect in my bathroom.
I love all three of the new lines from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart, but was immediately drawn to the dark oil rubbed bronze finish of the Holbrook line. I like that you can get all the coordinating hardware- towel rings, towel bars, robe hooks, there is even matching mirrors, faucets, and drawer pulls and knobs! All the items are available at Walmart or Walmart.com . I will be linking all the items from the Holbrook collection at the end of this post also.
Since, I had just recently purchased and installed new vanity mirrors, drawer pulls and faucets, I didn’t need to replace those. I did need to update my lighting and other hardware fixtures. The existing ones in my bathroom were not the best quality and were already showing signs of wear and use and had some chipping. I was excited to be able to match the new lights and the bathroom hardware all from the same Holbrook collection. Let’s take a look at the mirror, faucet and drawer hardware that is available with the Holbrook collection.
Now, let’s take a look the changes I made to update the space.
First, I needed to update the old dingy white laminate countertops. I discovered an amazing hack that only cost $4! You can read all about that update HERE.
Next it was time for a fresh coat of paint! I took off the peel and stick wallpaper that was currently on the focal wall. I loved the distressed wood look, but my goal was light and bright- and I had another idea in mind. I then gave all the walls a fresh coat of white paint and painted the vanity in an olive green shade called TIFFANY GREEN.
Then I turned my attention to the focal wall. I wanted something to add interest and texture, yet still be light and bright. After brainstorming, I did my sharpie subway tile technique that I had previously used in my boys’ bathroom, but created a herringbone pattern instead. You can read all about that process HERE.
Next on the list was to install the beautiful new Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart Holbrook hardware and light fixtures. Then I just needed a few finishing touches. While shopping, I found the most amazing thick and plush towels and a gorgeous new shower curtain and shower liner all from the Better Homes & Garden at Walmart line of products. I was even able to update my shower nozzle with this amazing double head one and found an adjustable shower caddy for all my bath necessities.
You can watch how I updated the bathroom here.
I love that I was able to create a brand new and fresh look all while staying on a budget.
As promised, here are the all the products available in the Holbrook collection with links.
I hope you’ll come back soon for more DIY’s, budget friendly home decor and all the in between.

I can’t find a link to the light and it’s not on Walmart. Do you have the link somewhere else?
