The kitchen is many times called the “heart of the home”. This is definitely true of mine. We spend a large portion of our time in here. Not just eating meals, but prepping for school, homework, snacks, even just passing by to leave for work/school or to go outside to play. Our kitchen is truly at the center (heart) of our home.
Our kitchen has undergone quite the transformation since we purchased the home in December 2017. The house was built in 1990 and very few (if any) updates had been done by the prior homeowners. When we purchased the home, while it had “great bones”, we knew it needed tons of updating. The kitchen was at the top of the list.
I always love before and afters. They help you to see how far a space has come and helps you “see” and appreciate all your hard work even more. So let’s see where the kitchen started.
The very first thing we did was order all new appliances- like I said- little had been updated in the home… and the appliances were no exception. So we ordered a new fridge, range, dishwasher and above range microwave. Then I had to prep the space for the new range and microwave. This involved some cabinet reconfiguration and replacement.
After the new appliances were installed, next up was cabinet painting, countertop and backsplash updating and painting the walls.
Several months later, because remember- we are on a tight budget and do things as we have the money saved up- I then built and installed an island in our kitchen- complete with butcher block top.
At this point, the kitchen was almost totally new. We just needed one more thing to mark it off the list and officially call the space complete- a new sink and faucet. It would be the final finshing touches we need to call this space done!
The hunt was on for my dream farmhouse sink… a white sink, apron front… I wanted one that was nice and deep- as the existing one was only about 6-7” deep and water splashed everywhere every time we turned the water on.
I also wanted a faucet that was all in one, could move from side to side with ease and was flexible to accommodate large pots and water pitchers.
I was running into problems finding a sink that we could use with our laminate countertops. New countertops – while I would love them- are NOT in the budget for at least a few more years. All the farmhouse sinks I was finding were undermount only- and you can’t have that with laminate as the particle board sides would be exposed to water and cause expansion and rot.
Just when I was about to give up on my dreams of a farmhouse sink and kitchen completion- at least until budget allowed for new countertops- I stumbled upon the new Sinkology Josephine Drop In Sink at The Home Depot. It checked all the boxes: white, farmhouse style, apron front, single bowl with a nice deep sink, and it was a drop in! Praise the kitchen gods … THIS was it! I COULD have a farmhouse sink with laminate countertops!
Now, while you of course can purchase the sink on its own, I still needed a faucet. The faucet I chose is the Pfister Zuri in polished chrome. It is sleek, modern, moveable and it has a tall profile to accommodate large pots and pitchers.
Guess what? The Home Depot also offers an all in one package- sink, faucet, and drain – all in one! So I checked out the available options and found the combo package with the sink AND faucet that I LOVED. My dreams of a completed kitchen were about to come true! I placed my order and waited for arrival.
Now lets talk about the installation. The Sinkology Josephine sink installation was a breeze using the Bilt app. Have you heard of the Bilt app? I honestly didn’t know it was even a thing…but it is amazing! You search your product from a list and there is step by step, interactive instructions for you. You can pause, rewind, and go at your own pace! Best new app ever! It walked me through the tools needed, measuring for and making the necessary cuts for the sink to fit, and the actual installation.
The Pfister Zuri faucet was a breeze to install. The instructions were easy to follow and y’all-the faucet was installed in less than 15 minutes! It was the easiest plumbing fixture I have I ever put in…and I’ve installed a lot. The Zuri faucet has a gorgeous sleek all in one design. The height is perfect to fill large pots or pitchers to water plants. The all in one design keeps the sink area simple and clean looking.
In one day we went from a shallow scratched up 1990 stainless steel double bowl sink to a gorgeous large farmhouse sink and sleek faucet. To say I am in love is an understatement! I smile every time I walk into my kitchen now.
I am so happy I can now call the kitchen complete!
I’ll see ya next time friends for more fun!
