Do you decorate for the holidays? Of course I’m sure you decorate for Christmas or Hanukkah and maybe even Halloween, but I mean all the other seasonal holidays- Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, Easter, Valentine’s Day?
I know decor can get pricey, especially when it is only up for a short time. If you choose to decorate, you definitely don’t want to spend “an arm and a leg”. I know I don’t.
What if I told you this little banner cost me $2.00. Yes… just TWO.
What if I said you only need two items? Interested?
SUPPLIES: You will need: twine/jute cord and paper doily hearts. That’s it!
You can find the hearts at the dollar store. They come in a pack of 30 for ONE DOLLAR. I also found some in the Valentine’s section of my local Hobby Lobby for $1.99 minus 40% off for the Valentine’s decor sale, and if you need larger quantities they have these on amazon. The jute/twine can also be found at the dollar store in their craft section or at most craft stores (be sure to use any store coupons to save extra). You will only need a small amount, so there will be plenty leftover for future projects. (In place of jute twine you could also use bakers twine or even yarn.)
Measure out the length of twine you will need for the space. A typical banner is 72″ long, but since you are making this yourself you can completely customize it, making it shorter or longer to fit your space. The area I planned to hang mine (over my coffee bar) needed a shorter length.
Now to assemble: All you need to do is thread the jute twine through one hole of the paper doily. (I chose one in the upper portion of the heart closer to the edge. Start on one side threading from the top down and then back up through the corresponding hole on the other side of the heart. This ensures the majority of the twine will be hidden behind the heart.
Keep threading as many hearts as you need to fit your jute twine and your space. You will want to space them about every 3 inches and leave about 8-10″ of twine on each end for hanging.
Hang it up and enjoy!
I hope this encourages you to decorate your home on a budget and also seasonally. Making our homes festive and cozy year round can be beautiful without spending a lot.
XO- Tiffany
