Outdoor fun, cool sweet treats and all things citrus make me think of summer!
Summer is in full force and that means lots of warm weather (ok- I’m not fooling anyone… it plain old HOT here in Alabama) and lots of sunshine- perfect cool refreshing treats! My boys love ice cream and frozen yogurt and we have enjoyed making our own for several years now! Homemade Vanilla is out favorite and then we can each add our favorite toppings!
We have had this Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for a couple of years and we love it! It so easy to use (no salt, ice or buckets needed!) and super affordable!

We spend most of our summer days outside and I love that I can grab all our summer essentials at one place, including all the ingredients for our favorite Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream! Cool treats are a must to help cool off from the intense Alabama summer heat!
Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
You will need:
- 2 cups Heavy cream
- 2 cups whole milk
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 TBSP pure vanilla extract
- pinch salt
- your ice cream maker (HERE)
Directions:
- Be sure to freeze the bowl that comes with your Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker overnight. (we keep ours in the freezer towards the back so its always ready to use).
- Mix all your ingredients in a bowl stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- Let chill for 2-3 hours or overnight.
- Pour the chilled ingredients into the ice cream bowl.
- Turn on the ice cream maker and that’s it!
Your ice cream maker will do all the work. It will take about 15-20 minutes for a soft serve type consistency. If you like your ice cream a little more firm, you can transfer the ice cream to a freezer safe bowl (we use THESE) and place in the freezer for a couple of hours.
Once the ice cream is ready, we add the toppings of our choice and enjoy! The possibilities are endless and the kids enjoy creating new flavor combinations. There is also a recipe book that comes with the ice cream maker for more ideas and tons of recipes you can find on the internet!
