When I was little, I remember stopping at Shoney’s for a fresh strawberry pie. We would get them for a special occasion or for a summer family cookout.
Over the years, there aren’t as many Shoney’s around anymore, but after some trial and error, I think I have come pretty close to recreating that pie I enjoyed as a kiddo.
Now, I make this pie for my family for our special occasions and BBQ’s.
YOU WILL NEED:
For 1 pie:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Strawberries
- 1 deep dish Pie Crust
- 1 -3 oz box Strawberry Jell-O
- 2 1/2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 1/2 cup Water
- Whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Cook pie crust according to package instructions and let cool.
- While the crust is cooking, slice strawberries.
- Once crust is cool, layer the sliced strawberries evenly on the bottom.
- In a saucepan, add water, sugar and cornstarch and bring to a boil.
- Simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened then remove from heat, add Jell-O and stir until dissolved.
- Pour the jello mixture over the strawberries.
- Refrigerate until set.
- Slice and serve with whipped cream.
I hope you enjoy this pie as much as my family and I do.
